003 System

Well, it looks like Digidesign has finally released the long awaited 003 system. It's not too terribly different from the 002, but it does have some pretty key features the 002 was missing:

• 2 headphone jacks, one of which is selectable between outputs 1/2 and 3/4
• Alt monitor outputs for feeding a second set of monitors in addition to your mains
• DI's on all 4 mic input channels

It was rumored that the 003 would feature SMUX adat optical that would allow for up to 18 inputs even at 96k, but that doesn't seem to have come through in the initial release. It was also thought that there would be a more expansive input section with more mic pre's, but that isn't here either. I'm not sure, but it does remind me of when the Mbox2 came out and it wasn't too different from the original Mbox, then the Mbox2Pro and Mbox2Mini came out.
