There is no greater recognition of the validity of a profession than the acknowledgment of others in that industry.I have always enjoyed buying albums for one main reason -- other than the fact that I love music, I also love to read all the credits on the album. I've always been fascinated by the people that work behind the scenes to make things happen. I also enjoy sitting through the end credits on a movie. I'm going somewhere with this. I had the pleasure of seeing an advance screening of 'Transformers' and I noticed something at the end of the movie. A credit line for 'Pro Tools Operator.' This blew my mind! Even in films, the need for highly trained, knowledgeable PT professionals has led to industry wide recognition for one's ability to use this amazing software.
I know that a lot of people have personal preferences when it comes to the world of DAWs, but there is no other product out there, never has been even in the analogue days, that is so widely used and accepted across the entire Entertainment Industry. From music production to dialogue recording to surround sound mixing in 7.1, all of it can be handled very easily by Pro Tools. My point is this: Practice!I and other Pro Tools Instructors are here to expose everyone to the capabilities of Pro Tools. It's kinda our job. But the only way for you, the user, to get these jobs that are available is to practice. The more you do these functions, the more you mess up and pull your hair out trying to get things to work, the easier and more efficient it will be for you the next time. This is the only sure fire way to keep working. The moment you get lazy and believe you know everything there is to know, that's when the world will pass you by. There are lots of people out there with the same goals and ambitions; what is gonna make the director of a Record Label or the Producer of a film want to choose you for their project? This is what you have to ask yourself. The only way to keep getting phone calls for work is to keep on doing a good job. The only way to do a good job is to know what you are doing. The only way to know what you are doing is to practice. It's kinda like The Force. Keep Practicing!
