When I was first exposed to Propellerhead’s Reason I had very limited knowledge of sound synthesis and how to utilize the power of samplers in music.

I thought terms like sampling, ASDR, LFO and Frequency Modulation were for audiologists who hung out in laboratories. Sound familiar?

I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s workflow was find the factory preset and go for it ! I remember when I first looked at and fully expanded Reason’s NNXT sampler. I was totally baffled. I knew all those knobs did something cool, but what did they do ! That was the question. Every time I’d try to randomly tweak one or two of them the results were totally unpredictable and most often was not what I was looking for.

What I didn’t understand at the time was the true power of Reason and that I needed to establish a foundation if I was going to succeed in using it powerfully in my music. The foundation I’m speaking of contains two main elements. A solid understanding of synthesis terminology , it’s definitions and using these tools effectively to manipulate sound.

Whether you are a musician, composer, re-mixer, or sound designer , Reason is undoubtedly one of today’s greatest professional audio creation tools. It does almost everything a DAW like Pro Tools doesn’t yet it compliments it perfectly with the universal rewire applet ! Imagine having racks of anything you want in your studio at your command. With Rex files, custom refills and cutting edge samplers you could have a Triton, Prophet 5, MPC2000, and Moog all in your Reason rack in an instant .

The sonic flexibility and routing capabilities are only limited to your ability to create and understand the Reason application. Years have passed since I first encountered Reason and picking up the software was only the first step. Since then I have established the foundation necessary to succeed thanks to ProMedia’s ‘ Reason in the Real World Course “ In this course you’ll do two full days of hands on training in the brand new Reason 4. You’ll establish the fundamentals you’ll need to create a pathway for becoming a powerful Reason user.

You’ll explore and understand audio synthesis, sampling and how they relate to all Reason instruments. Whether you do rock, country, hip hop, classical, electronica, or pop. Reason will be a powerful tool in your musical arsenal. But make no mistake, the true power behind Reason lies with you and your ability to create powerfully within the application.

Happy Creating !
